TrackFolderChanges

TrackFolderChanges is a simple application that displays in real time any changes to the file system (you can also restrict the search to a specific folder and its subfolders).

New files and folders are displayed in green, modified files in blue and deleted ones in red. Note that items will appear as soon as there is something to show, unchanged folders are not displayed. Right click an item to copy its path or to open its parent folder.

The application is written in C# and the source code is available on Codeplex.

Reddit is a great site, but opening every interesting link is time-consuming, so I decided to write an application that generates RSS feeds with full articles. This software downloads every popular page posted on Reddit, extracts the actual content (without navigational menus, ads, comments and social links) and then uploads the feeds to a web server. The feeds are updated once/twice a day.

Sample feeds: Reddit – All (week top), Reddit – I took a picture (week top), Reddit – Programming (day top), Reddit – WTF (day top)

It’s still a beta version, so suggestions are welcome. Note: occasionally the program fails to recognize useless stuff and includes it in the final article.

The program is written in C# with .NET 4 and HtmlAgilityPack. It supports Reddit, StackExchange and a few forum engines.

JavaScript Middle Click Fixer

One of the most annoying things on the web are JavaScript-based image galleries. Often, you can’t middle-click single images in order to open them in background tabs, because Firefox will open a blank javascript tab.

This is what JavaScript Middle Click Fixer, a Greasemonkey extension for Firefox, tries to fix.

If the thumbnail image contains a JavaScript command (onclick or href=”javascript:…”), this extension reads the linked picture from the code (when possible), and opens it in a new tab.

If a linked image is not found, this extension forces the browser to use the same tab, so the JavaScript code runs properly.

TinEye Client is an extension for Windows Explorer that adds TinEye to the context menu of image files.

TinEye is a reverse image search engine that looks up equal or similar images in the internet, so you can find where an image comes from, or download a larger version of the original image.

Fluent Next Page

Fluent Next Page is an Greasemonkey user script for Firefox that automatically prefetches the next page in blogs and forums, and automatically switches to it when you reach the bottom of the page.

Since the page is preloaded in memory, most times you won’t ever notice the page changed.

In order to improve the user experience, the transitions do not always occur immediately:

If you use the mouse wheel, the last ticks at the bottom of the page and first ones at the beginning of the next page are ignored.
If you use the page down key, the transition occurs the first time you press the key after you already reached the bottom of the page

You can press left/right arrow keys to manually go back and forth.
This script is a fork of Super Next Page by godeye.

QuickADriveUpload

ADrive is a wonderful online storage service. It offers 50 GB of free space, but unluckily its web interface is really bad, so I developed QuickADriveUpload, a .NET application that automates the login process and allows to perform file-system like operations on ADrive (move, copy, rename and delete of files and folder) and – of course – uploads and downloads. I use it to backup some of the files on my computer (just the large ones, for the rest I use Dropbox)

I will not release this software, because ADrive already has a desktop client, and it’s reserved for paying customers. Sorry :P

JustSubsPlayer

It can be used to add subtitles (.SRT) to online videos (many video players can play subtitles, but only if there’s a local video file to play).

It is written in VB .NET and is based on .NET Framework 3.5 and Windows Presentation Foundation.

Execute it and click "Extract" to extract setup files;
Choose the options and click "Install";

Uninstallation

To uninstall the product, click Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs, select antiufo's VistaPack, click Change/Remove and click Uninstall.

	Microsoft Windows 7 A new revolution in user experience, with the technical improvements of Windows Vista, optimized performance and new features.
	Zune Browse music, not spreadsheets.
	Firefox Out of the box, it’s a crappy browser, but after applying the right extensions with the right mix of settings, it becomes the best browser ever.
	Microsoft OneNote 2010 I couldn't live without it. It keeps track of all my ideas, all my TODOes, it knows all the things I like, all the thinks I love.
	Windows Live Writer The awesome tool I'm using to write this blog.
	Windows Live Messenger Good instant messaging application (without Messenger Plus or other dumb extensions, and with emoticons disabled). The new version perfectly integrates with Facebook chat and has a wonderful Facebook album viewer.
	Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 It's my paradise. Intellisense, real-time error checker, the beauty of the .NET Framework, Language Integrated Queries, perfect user experience.
	Windows PowerShell A wonderful .NET scripting environment. On linux, everything is a file. On PowerShell, everything is an object.
	Windows Live Mail Good mail and RSS reader.
	VirusTotal I don't use a real-time antivirus. Just a bit of good sense: I use Windows Updates, I don't install scareware and fake antivirus, SuperMagicVideoCodec.exe, Serial.exe, etc. If a program look suspicious to me, I upload it to VirusTotal, where it will be scanned by 30+ different antivirus products.
	Notepad2 Advanced text-editor. Uncluttered UI, zoom with CTRL+mouse wheel, syntax colorization.
	WinDirStat Very useful tool to understand where the disk space is used
	AutoRuns See everything is loaded on startup: drivers, shell extensions, etc. Makes possible to filter Microsoft entries and can check digital signatures of these files. Every entry can be disabled or deleted.
	Smart Sniff Program to see the TCP/UDP traffic of running applications, I use it for HTTP automation tools.
	Resource Hacker Extracts or replaces icons, bitmaps and dialog boxes from Win32 files.
	Process Explorer Very useful task manager from Microsoft. Makes possible to understand exactly what is happening on a computer.
	ArtIcons Icon editor. Many features, light-weight, good user experience.
	AutoIt3 Handy scripting language to automate tasks, set customized hotkeys and create simple Win32 executables.
	CMenu Organizes the context-menu in sub-menus (Unlocker, VirusTotal, PEID, TrID, Universal Extractor, Notepad, Copy path, Change extension))

It is a puzzle game in which the player controls a robot through various mazes and obstacle courses. It includes 9 levels

Differences from Microsoft Tinker

Lasers, mirrors and magnets don't exist
Unluckily I had no time to reverse-engineer Microsoft Tinker levels, so the two formats are incompatible
No high-quality 3D animations and sounds
Minimalist UI, just a menu (Restart level, Load level, Help, Exit) and the battery energy on the top-right corner of the screen

Software Settings Backup Tool

Software Settings Backup Tool saves (and restores) the settings of your programs in a folder. If you reinstall Windows, you don't need to reconfigure manually your programs.

You can also export the settings from an old computer and import them to a new computer. The program works also if you restore the settings in a computer with different language, user name or system folders (eg: "C:\Documents and Settings\User\Application Data" and "V:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Dati Applicazioni" are the some thing for the program). You can choose the program settings you want to back up and add other programs.
